Unlock the Magic of Reading: Supporting Young Learners in Bunkers Hill
2026
A child’s education is supported by more than what happens in a classroom. A morning meal, the supplies needed for school and the chance to take the next step all matter. At Impact Life International, our education and empowerment work brings these practical needs together with a commitment to young people’s futures.
In 2026, we conducted a literacy fair for Bunkers Hill Primary and Infant School in Jamaica. The theme, “Unlock the Magic of Reading,” celebrated literacy and brought students and their school community together around learning.
The photographs from the fair show children gathered in a bright classroom, volunteers standing alongside pupils and educational displays in the school courtyard. These moments reflect the people at the heart of our work: young learners, their school and the community supporting them.
The fair is one part of a broader commitment. We established a breakfast program that provides meals for students in the morning. Supporting this everyday need is an important part of caring for children as they continue their education.
We also provide clothing, school supplies and toiletries. For families facing financial hardship, these everyday essentials are part of the practical support we can offer alongside educational opportunities.
For children heading to high school in Jamaica, we provide scholarships. Many families in the communities we serve cannot afford the costs of this transition. Our scholarship support focuses on helping children take that next step in their education.
Our confirmed milestones include the establishment of the breakfast program, the provision of student essentials, high-school scholarship support and the 2026 literacy fair. We have not reported attendance totals, scholarship amounts or measured reading gains for this fair; the story here is the work carried out and the community it serves.
Continuing this work takes continuing support. Gifts toward youth and education can help sustain morning meals, clothing, school supplies, toiletries and high-school scholarships. Together, we can keep these programs going and help make educational opportunities more accessible to the families we serve.
